The completed sale led to the completed vessel. (Click here for design and launch pictures.) This SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) support vessel, built in China, will perform mission-critical duty in a demanding, no-compromise environment. First in a series, CNOOC's new offshore asset relies on its Quantum/Island Engineering ride control system, a four-foil configuration with a sophisticated operational profile which allows the ship operators to select a full range of control and performance options. The Quantum/Island Engineering system incorporates full platforming (roll, pitch, trim, and heave control), and contouring mode, where the system is designed to allow the ship to contour to the prevailing wave conditions. The expanded area from the picture from the launching ceremony shows one of the fins in greater detail- you can see how the Quantum SWATH ride control system lays out. The actuators and fins were designed and fabricated by Quantum Controls BV, the hydraulic power units were designed and fabricated by Quantum Marine Engineering, and the control and sensor array was designed and integrated by Island Engineering using IEI's state-of-the-art motion control technology.
In closing, here's a picture and testimonial from a happy captain praising OnAnchor™, the Quantum active roll stabilization system that keeps “Lady Sheridan” steady in the anchorage:
